The history of the Golf Club Patriziale Ascona goes back to the year 1928 and started at that time with only four holes and then for a long time it was a 9-hole course. In 1953 it was extended to 18 holes. These were designed by C.K. Cotton with a lot of skill and imagination. With the opening of eighteen holes, Ascona became recognized as one of the best courses in the country. It is located in one of the most beautiful parts of Switzerland - the Ticino, the Italian speaking part of Switzerland with Italian climate. The fairways stretch out on flat terrain, partly covered by woods. Lush trees line the fairways, sandtraps and on the seventeenth a picturesque pond covered with water lilies demand accurate shots. The par 4 holes are the most difficult ones on the course, even if they are no very long. One of the most challenging holes is the14th, a dogleg and a straight and narrow fairway. The course is very well maintained, due to current improvements as well as its watering system. The Patriziale Ascona is not only a course in a most beautiful setting bordering the Lake «Lago Maggiore» but also a very demanding and challenging one. Courses nearby: Lugano.
